The following knowledge is assumed in GAMSAT chemistry section 3 questions. This is not necessarily an exhaustive list, nor is it necessarily necessary to learn everything on this list to get a good mark, though I’d encourage it.
- Atomic Structure (The A level stuff, not the GCSE stuff)
- Bonding and Structure
- Moles
- Thermodynamics (Gibbs free energy, Entropy, Enthalpy)
- Kinetics
- Acids and Bases
- Isomerism, chirality and stereoisomeism particularly in organic compounds
- Organic Chemistry (Learn this!)
- Types of organic molecules (Alkanes, Alkenes, Alcohols, Aldehydes, Ketones,Ethers, Amines, Carboxylic acids, Acyl halides, Acid anhydride, Amides Esters, Phenols, Aromatics)
- Types of reactions (Oxidation, Reduction, Nucleophilic, Electrophilic etc)
- Naming of organic molecules (Learn This!)
Learn all this and you’re doing well, though I would encourage you to go beyond this list as it’s not possible to guarantee what will be on the GAMSAT year by year.
